Funding for 130 homes in Edmonton
The Government of Canada is stepping up with a bold new approach to build affordable housing across the country.
Government of Canada has launched Build Canada Homes, which will help increase the pace of affordable homebuilding. Build Canada Homes will also help fight homelessness by building transitional and supportive housing and partner with private market developers to build affordable homes for the Canadian middle class.
Today, the federal government announced over $34 million in funding to help build 130 secure, rental homes in Edmonton.
Build Canada Homes is a new federal agency that will build affordable housing at scale. It will leverage public lands, offer flexible financial incentives, attract private capital, facilitate large portfolio projects, and support modern manufacturers to build the homes that Canadians need.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada.
